Installing Link X Pro
Once purchased, both the database and program are emailed as self-extracting EXE files.  Follow these directions to install and configure Link X Pro™.  If you are an existing Ban Man Pro customer, please note that Link X Pro must be installed in the same web as Ban Man Pro (same web but different subdirectory).

Install Database

  1. The Link X Pro™ database is emailed as script file.
    Follow these directions to create the database.
  2. Now add a user for this new database.
  3. Now setup and ODBC connection to the database.

Install Program

  1. Create a Sub Directory off of your main web site.  This directory will house the Link X Pro™ software.  The directory SHOULD be named "linkxpro" as some include statements in the product are hard-coded to use this naming convention.  For example, if your domain name is http://www.yourdomain.com, create a directory called http://www.yourdomain.com/linkxpro
  2. Extract Link X Pro™ into this directory.  Link X Pro™ includes several sub-directories.  These include images, zones and help.   You must maintain this directory structure and include the sub-directories.   DO NOT PLACE A COPY OF OUR SELF-EXTRACTING FILE ANYWHERE ON YOUR WEB SITE.
  3. Set the permissions for the newly created linkxpro directory to allow files to be browsed and allow scripts to be run. Set these same permissions for the administration directory.
  4. Update the db.asp script to reflect the DSN name, username and password you established when setting up the ODBC connection.   If you will be connecting to the database using an OLE DB connection, then modify the appropriate section.
  5. Set the proper permissions on the MemberBanners folder as shown here.  This will allow your exchange members to upload their images.
  6. Open the application in your browser (http://www.yourdomain.com/linkxpro/administration/) and set the preferences.  The login name and password are currently set to admin1 for both.
  7. Now proceed to the getting started guide available from the Link X Pro™ Help menu and be sure to update your preferences to reflect your particular server settings.
Install Ban Man Pro for SQL Server
The paid portion of your banner exchange will be managed by Ban Man Pro.  Follow the Ban Man Pro installation instructions for installing that program.

NOTE: If you did not install Ban Man Pro in a directory called "banmanpro", you will need to update the reference to Ban Man Pro found on the third line of the linkxpro.asp file.  This file is located in the root directory where Link X Pro was installed.   Currently the include statement reads...

<!--#Include virtual="/banmanpro/banmanfunc.asp"-->

If you installed Ban Man Pro in a directory called "banman" then change the statement to...

<!--#Include virtual="/banman/banmanfunc.asp"-->

Next, you must update the file called definezones.asp found in the administration directory.  There is in include statement near the beginning of the file referencing the dbconnect.asp file in the Ban Man Pro directory.

Post-Installation Getting Started Guide
  • From within the Link X Pro administration management console set the user preferences.
  • From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the categories your exchange will use.  The product is pre-configured with generic categories.  These can be deleted or modified as desired.
  • From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the Banner Sizes that will be supported by your exchange.
  • From within the Ban Man Pro Admin management page, setup at least one zone that will be used to serve the paid portion of your banner exchange.  You might choose to create a zone for each Link X Pro category in the event that you will be selling advertising space for each specific category.
  • From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the Ban Man Pro zone to be used for each Link X Pro category. (Define Zones)
  • Now link your main web site to your signup page so you can begin recruiting members!  In the "Other Options" section of the Administrator Management Console you will find a links page that shows these important links.
