Link X Pro Support Page

Getting Started
If you are just getting started you should do the following:
  1. Install Link X Pro
  2. Install Ban Man Pro
  3. Set the preferences in both applications.  You will access the Link X Pro administration using http://www.yourdomain.com/linkxpro/administration/  Note that if you installed LinkXPro in a different directory this link is different.
  4. Edit the header.htm and footer.htm files in Link X Pro to use your company logo or banner.  Edit topbanner.htm in Ban Man Pro to use your company banner or logo.
  5. From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the categories your exchange will use.  The product is pre-configured with generic categories.  These can be deleted or modified as desired.
  6. From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the Banner Sizes that will be supported by your exchange.
  7. From within the Ban Man Pro Admin management page, setup at least one zone that will be used to serve the paid portion of your banner exchange.  You might choose to create a zone for each Link X Pro category in the event that you will be selling advertising space for each specific category.
  8. From within the Link X Pro administration management console, setup the Ban Man Pro zone to be used for each Link X Pro category.
  9. Now link your main web site to your signup page so you can begin recruiting members!  In the "Other Options" section of the Administrator Management Console you will find a links page that shows these important links.
Statistics
The statistics section summarizes a variety of Link X Pro statistics.

Summary --  The summary page shows how many members currently belong to the exchange, how many members are pending approval, and how many banners are pending approval.  A summary of impressions and clicks for today, past 7 days, and past 30 days is also shown.  Keep in mind these stats are for the Member portion of the exchange only.  Statistics for the paid portion can only be viewed in Ban Man Pro.  Follow the link in the "Paid Ads" section of the management console to administer Ban Man Pro.

Daily Stats -- The daily stats page summarizes the impressions and clicks for each day in the past 30 days.

Period (User-Defined) --  The User-Defined statistics allow you to define the type of report, period, and banner placement.  Report types include the following:

  • Summary for Period -- Shows the total number of impressions/clicks for the selected period and placement.
  • Summary by Day --  Shows the number of impressions/clicks for each day in the selected period.
  • Summary By Member -- Shows the impressions/clicks for the selected period broken down by each member.
  • Click Detail -- Provides specific click detail including the banner, date/time, browser, and IP address.
  • Summary by Member Credits -- Shows the total number of credits currently available to members.  Also displays credits obtained through transfers and bonuses, as well as the total number of credits transferred away to other members.  Note that this report is not available as a function of date or banner placement and those selections will be ignored.

Top 10 Banners -- Displays the top 10 performing banners both as a function of impressions and click through rate.

Cheating Report -- Shows a summary of all potential cheaters.  The report indicates the member, the date/time the suspicous activity began, how many impressions were ignored by the system, how many minutes the activity lasted, and the users IP address.  Note that the parameters that constitute whether or not a user is "cheating" are specified the the administrative preferences.

Accounts
The accounts section is used to manage your exchange member's accounts.  Each time a new member signs up, you must accept their account before they can begin using it.
  • View Pending -- Shows a listing of all counts that are pending approval.
  • View Active -- Shows a listing of all active members.
  • View On Hold -- Shows a listing of only those accounts that are on hold.
  • View All --  Shows a listing of all member accounts.
Banners
The banners section allows you to manage your members banners.  Just as new members require administrative approval, their banners also require approval before they begin rotation.  This prevents the situation where a member posts a banner which is not relevant to the exchange.
  • View All -- Shows a listing of all banners that have been entered into the system.  To view banners specific to an individual member, select the member from the drop-down list then click GO.
  • View Pending -- This allows you to view a list of banners which are pending approval.  All banners must be approved by the administrator before they begin rotating.
  • View By Member -- To view banners specific to an individual member, select the member from the drop-down list then click GO.

Add A New Banner --  Use the Add New option to add a new member banner.  The following parameters are required...

Member -- Select the member the new banner is to be assigned to.
Placement -- Select the placement of the banner.
Description -- Add a description for the banner.
Image URL -- Specify the fully qualified URL to the image.
Target URL -- Specify the URL where the user is to be redirected when clicking the banner ad.
Width -- Specify the width of the image in pixels.
Height -- Specify the height of the image in pixels.
Accepted -- Check this option if the banner is to be automatically accepted.  If unchecked the banner will appear in the pending list.

Banner Sizes
Banner sizes allow your exchange to support different banner sizes and different placements on web pages.  For example, you might offer a 468X60 banner at both the top and the bottom.  Most advertisers will only advertise at the top of a web page so you would want to create a "Top of Page 468X60" placement and a "Bottom of Page 468X60" placement.  You could also create placements of different sizes such as buttons and small square advertisements.

Banner Size Parameters:

  • Description -- Enter a placement description such as "Top of Pages 468X60".  It is recommended that you include both the placement and dimensions in the description.
  • Placement Restrictions -- Describe the placement restrictions for this placement.  For example, if the banner must be placed at the top of the page without the need to scroll to view the banner, then state so here.
  • Width -- Enter the Width of this banner placement in pixels.
  • Height -- Enter the Height of this banner placement in pixels.
  • Maximum Size in KB -- Enter the maximum size in KB for this banner placement.  For example, a typical maximum size of a 468X60 banner might be 12-15KB.  This will limit your members so that they cannot upload overly large images which will take a long time to load on your member's pages.
Categories
Categories are an important part of your Banner Exchange as they allow you to group your members into specialized areas of interest.  This in turn allows you to sell banner advertisements in these specific categories. Link X Pro is installed with a list of generic categories.  You are free to delete these and add your own categories.  Since categories are a fundamental part of Link X Pro, they must be defined before you begin signing up members.
Paid Ads
The Paid Ads section allows you to manage the banner advertisements in the paid portion of your exchange.  All paid advertisements are managed by Ban Man Pro.

Manage Paid Advertisements --  This link simply provides a quick link to the Ban Man Pro interface.

Define Zones -- For each category and placement in Link X Pro, you must define a corresponding "Zone" in Ban Man Pro which will hold the "Paid" advertisements for this category/placement combination.  While it is possible to create just one zone in Ban Man Pro, if you will be selling advertisements specific to a particular category then you must create a zone for that category.

Credit Transfers
The Credit Transfers section allows you to transfer credits between members and to assign bonus credits.  If you would like to automatically credit your users with bonus credits at signup, you can specify this value in the preferences.

Transfer Credits To Another Site -- Use this option to transfer credits from one member to another.  The following fields are required:

  • From Member -- This is the member that is giving up some credits
  • To Member -- This is the member to receive the points
  • Placement -- This is the banner placement from which the credits will be taken
  • Number of Credits -- Total number of credits to be transferred
  • Distribution -- Enter the number of credits/day that are to be transferred to the members pool of credits.
  • Begin Immediately -- Check this box to make the first transfer immediately.  If unchecked the transfer will take place at midnight.

Assign Bonus Credits --  Use this option to give a user bonus credits.

  • Member -- Select a member to receive the bonus credits
  • Placement -- Select the banner placement
  • Number of Credits -- Enter the total number of credits to be given to the user.
  • Distribution -- Enter the number of credits to be transferred per day.  When set equal to the Number of Credits, all credits are transferred at once.
  • Begin Immediately -- Check this box to have the credit transfer executed immediately.  If unchecked, the transfer will take place at midnight.

View Transfers and Credits -- Choose this option to view a list of all transfers that have not yet fully completed.  Completed transfers are deleted daily at midnight.  The delete button allows you to delete a transfer at any time.

Other Options

Preferences -- The preferences screen allows you to define important information used throughout the exchange.  The parameters and their use are described below:

Username/
Password:
The username and password are required for administering the Link X Pro software.  It is highly recommended that you change this to something other than Admin1.
